Saturday Scripture Speaks

Sorry I didn't get to this feature last week. I've sort of been burning both ends of the candle lately....not good.

There are a lot of Biblical passages that have spoken to me in the past couple of weeks. Isn't it amazing and wonderful how timeless the Bible is? One passage means something to me one day. A year later, that same passage speaks to me in yet another way. This is why it is SO important to continue reading through the Bible every day. It's not a book that you finish and then give away because you're done with it. It's eternal and we learn more and more and don't stop learning until we reach Heaven.

A rather unlikely passage struck me this week. It is this:

And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God. 1 Chronicles 13:10 (KJV)

God specifically stated that the Levites, and only the Levites, were to touch the ark. Uzza didn't think before he steadied the ark. Would have been better for Uzza to let it fall, better yet for him to have not had anything to do with moving it at all!

What hits me today about this is that God gave instructions. Uzza did not obey those instructions. Uzza died because of his disobedience.

When we disobey God, we deserve death too. If we don't have His forgiveness through Jesus Christ, we'll have to accept the punishment of eternal death in Hell. If we HAVE asked for that forgiveness and have turned from our sins (repentence), then we will escape that death sentence.
