Saturday Scripture Speaks - Giving
I married a very "giving" man. In fact, he is so giving that, at times, we found ourselves at a very bad place financially. I had always thought that in order to honor God with our giving, we needed to give "until it hurts". Over the years, I've learned a few things about what the Bible says concerning giving. Here's one that stands out.
For if there is first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what one has, and not according to what he does not have.
For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened; but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack, that their abundance also may supply your lack—that there may be equality. As it is written, “He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.” 2 Corinthians 8:12-15 (NKJV)
We have learned that there will be times when we cannot give money to meet every need. There will be times when we will have to do whatever we can in other ways - pray, visit, cook meals, clean a house, work on a roof, etc. God will honor you when you do what you can - not what you can't. And if He asks you to give money that you think you do not have, it might be time to re-figure your budget. Are you wasting?
Pray that we might all be doing what God asks of use without trying to be Superman and doing what He does not ask of us.
