This week we've been busy making some homemade maple syrup. It isn't as difficult as I had originally thought it to be. All I could remember from my childhood are the buckets hanging on the trees with sap running into them.
The first picture is the sap boiling.
This is the final product, not quite as thick or dark as some people like to get theirs. It is delicious, nonetheless. Pure maple syrup is a healthy sweetener, but you still don't want to overdo it. If you make your own syrup, treasure it for the gem it really is.
Our menu plan for the week is:
Monday
Scalloped Potatoes & Ham
Peas
Tuesday
Salads
Wednesday
Cheesy Chicken and Rice
Broccoli & Cauliflower
Thursday
Stuffed Shells
Green Beans
Friday
Pizza & pop
Saturday
Burgers and Fries
Salads
Sunday
On Your Own
