One Call Away is
a memoir by Brenda Warner (with Jennifer Schuchmann) and published by Thomas Nelson. Never having been a sports fan, it's not surprising that I had never heard of Brenda Warner before seeing this book. For others of you who do not know the people of pro football, Brenda Warner is married to former NFL qarterback for the St. Louis Rams, Kurt Warner.
This is a story of a woman who has gone from an itty bitty mustard seed faith to one of great proportions, but she hasn't made her way there without a whole lot of large struggles. The story of how she lost both parents to a tornado was especially touching to me. I cannot imagine losing both of my parents at the same time, and unexpectedly at that.
One of Brenda's convictions, that concerning premarital relations, bothered me quite a bit - in the beginning. Then I read on and watched that conviction change to the same one that I hold. I literally said out loud, "YES!" when I read that her belief had changed.
Brenda Warner's life story is a compelling read that makes you feel happy, sad, angry, and joyful. As it always seems to be in real life, the joy only comes after the suffering, at the back of the book, if you will. If you want an interesting memoir that points you to Jesus, you will definitely want to read One Call Away.
