Grandparents are proud
of their grandchildren,
and children should be proud
of their parents.
My Pepe, (maternal grandfather), used to say that his white hair was his crowning glory. That's in the Bible - Proverbs 16:31. In fact, the Old Testament is resplendent with references to gray hair and glory.
Proverbs 17:6 says that grandparents are proud of their grandchildren. In fact, they are proud of their own children - at least they ought to be. These days, children don't often give their elders anything about which to place pride.
Do you suppose that the ways in which we behave ourselves might have a tad bit to do with that issue? Yes, I know that things are just going their rightful course - that the Bible says children will become rebellious in the last days, family member will go against family member.
The above verse suggests that we, as parents and grandparents, have something to do with uprightness in those who follow. Our children and grandchildren should look at us and beam with pride. We need to be proving ourselves upright so that the next generation will do the same.
