Book Review - Daddy Dates by Greg Wright

Daddy Dates is written by Greg Wright and published by Thomas Nelson. When I first glanced at this book I thought, "Well, I've never heard of Greg Wright, but I like the idea of his book."

I like that concept. We have five children, but only one daughter - and she came after four boys. My husband looked down into her sweet little face on the day she was born and I know he said something like this, "What do we know about raising girls?" Well, now he's read Daddy Dates.

Daddy Dates gives that clueless dad a lot of help. It is a book that reads easy, a plus for a father who doesn't normally spend much time devouring books. Mr. Wright has a way of taking totally truthful tidbits and weaving them into a humorous yet poignant piece. Take for instance the purse. Of course every girl has to have one. If only men could understand why. Read Daddy Dates to figure it out.

Greg Wright used Dr. John Trent's personality insight test (Lion, Otter, Beaver and Golden Retriever) to help him discover each of his own daughters' strengths and weaknesses. By understanding their personalities, he was better able to understand what would click for each of them when they went on their "dates."

The chapter of the book that I liked the best, however, is the one titled, Mommy Dates. It should speak volumes to dads and fathers everywhere.

At the end of the book is a section that gives ideas for dates: Top 15 Daddy Dates. Our daughter, who is at the ripe age for dating her dad, will absolutely love the Picnic. She's a picnic freak.

I don't usually recommend books so highly, but I give this one SIX stars. Why? It's simple. In today's society, where everyone is screaming, "Be like the world," it's still possible to raise wise and wonderful Christian daughters. But it takes a good man in the daughter's life to help her become the woman she is meant to be in Christ. Who best to fulfill that role than the girl's own father?
