A Little of Everything

Our household has been a bit busy the past couple of weeks, but whose hasn't? Now that NaNoWriMo is over, I have a little more time to devote to this blog and other writing projects. I am at the last chapter of my novel. It's going a bit over the 50,000 word count needed to ace NaNoWriMo.

My daughter and I have been working together to make Christmas gifts for family and friends. Amanda is only 8, so she needs a lot of "help" to get some of it done. One item that we've made is soap on a rope. I crocheted the bags (SUPER easy) and she made the glycerin soap bars. I used a base so she wouldn't have to be around lye. Amanda stirred the base in the pan while it melted. Then she mixed in her own scent and color choices while I poured the hot soap into molds. I'm excited about the soap bags, because they're practical, easy to make (10 minutes each) and reusable (made with cotton).

More items we're working on for Christmas gifting are purchased ceramic mugs upon which Amanda painted designs and pictures. I made up some different chip dip and dressing mixes and cookie mixes to add. The paints we used are made for ceramics. We sprayed them with acrylic spray to keep the paint on.

Finally, I want to show you a couple of snow pictures. These are taken in our yard today. We've had a winter storm going on since Tuesday night. I think it might get lifted tonight...at least I hope! Several feet of snow in just a few days.

The soap bags are really neat! Homemade gifts are some of the best gifts because unlike store bought gifts, they come from the heart. Good job! Love what you are doing.

I have not visited your blog in several months, we've had some very difficult times. But I am tickled to see you'd done NaNo. I did it this year also--and won also, so amazing! If you'd like to be a writing buddy, look me up over there through my blog.

That is really cool that Amanda loves to do creative stuff too. Tell Josh I want a ride on that snowmobile...but I will have to come up there for that because we don't have snow!
