"Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised."
Proverbs 31:30 (KJV)
Well, we're just about to the end of Proverbs chapter 31. I feel so inadequate as I give my thoughts concerning these verses, but I guess that's just the way it is. It's sort of a take it or leave it kind of thing as I lay out on the blog table what I believe the Scriptures say about such things - as it speaks to me.
I don't think that anybody would argue in today's world against beauty being vain - it is! And who doesn't want to win favor, especially in the business world? I'll give you an example from my own private world. Our youth pastor and his wife are going to be on TV at the end of the month - Dateline, The Today Show, and even Oprah. Why? Because they went through the fire when they buried their college age daughter and found out a couple of weeks later that she was really alive. The TV appearances are in conjunction with a book release about the trials they went through - and the growth afterward.
Here's where my vanity comes in. For a short time today I was talking with someone about this whole subject and suddenly realized that I was bragging about this ---- because I know these people and they're from MY church. Oh how vain. I was searching for glory but our youth pastor and his wife are humble and nearly embarrassed over the attention. They want God to be glorified through their testimonies and nothing more.
That's true beauty folks, the beauty that God says the Proverbs 31 woman has, beauty from within.
