Book Review - Nearing Home by Billy Graham

This month I found another "great wisdom" book written by Billy Graham. This one, Nearing Home (Thomas Nelson), is one of the best yet. Maybe I like it so much because I am creeping out of the middle aged time of my life and nearing the "golden years" at a quicker pace than I had ever thought possible.

Last week my husband and I went to a local steakhouse for a date. The young girl at the register took our orders and then gave us the senior discount - without even asking whether we qualify or not, which we DON'T! I felt insulted; my husband laughed. If Billy Graham were there he'd probably have laughed too. As he maintains in his book, Mr. Graham believes that the way in which we handle our responses to the aging process makes all of the difference to us and those with whom we come into contact.

Throughout the pages of Nearing Home are insights that a strong man of God has gained during his 93 years on this earth. He has kept his integrity intact and tells us that we can do the same. He urges us to keep busy for God, even into retirement. In fact, he suggests that not everyone should retire. He claims that we should work if we have the ability and desire to do so.

I think this would be a great gift idea this Christmas.

I can only hope that as I get closer to old age I will do so with kindness to others, as Billy Graham has done. He says, "...growing old with grace is a choice." He models that well for us. Another job well done, Mr. Graham. Thank you for the example you give us and for your many years of service to others.

*I have received a copy of Nearing Home in exchange for my honest opinion. Opinions expressed are my own.*
