Book Review - The Beautiful Pretender by Melanie Dickerson

The Beautiful Pretender is written by Melanie Dickerson and published by Thomas Nelson.

My teenage daughter and I both love Melanie Dickerson's writing equally. This latest book in her fairy tale series is absolutely wonderful. It took me a while to figure out just which fairy tale character the main character, Avelina, was portraying, but I finally got it. For those of you wondering, I believe it to be the Princess and the Pea.

In this story, Avelina plays the part of her mistress, Lady Dorothea. Dorothea has run off and her father needs someone to take her place in a contest to win the Margrave of Thornbeck's heart - and marriage to him. The plan is for Avelina just to make an appearance so that the earl can earn the respect of Lord Thornbeck. She is NOT to win the margrave's heart. During some interesting twists and turns - and much danger - that proves more difficult than first believed.

This story is told beautifully and has enough suspense to keep the reader turning the page for more. While my daughter read this story with me, it is not a story just for the younger set. I would recommend middle teens and older read it. I am already awaiting the next book and hope Ms. Dickerson writes another, and another, and so on.

*I received this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are my own.*
