Hitting the creamy stuff when we're feeling against a brick wall is not the best idea. You know what works best?
Proverbs 31:12 (AMP) says,
She comforts, encourages, and does him only good as long as there is life within her.
I believe that one of the best ways to pull myself out of a pity party of one is to be a comfort to someone else. The Proverbs 31 Woman does this for her husband "as long as there is life in her." The King James says it this way, "She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."
If we put others before ourselves and refuse to sit around feeling sorry for ourselves, we'll find fulfillment. Verses 10 and 11 say this in the Good News Translation, "How hard it is to find a capable wife! She is worth far more than jewels! Her husband puts his confidence in her, and he will never be poor."
The Proverbs 31 Woman finds comfort and joy in what she does for her husband on a daily basis. She is rewarded by a husband who loves her and puts his confidence in her.
We live in such a me society that demands that we live for ourselves. When things don't go our way, just reach for the closest substance to fill our bodies - if it makes us fat, blame the food companies.
If our husbands get on our nerves, get rid of him and find someone new. We have to feed the cravings within that urge us to always "feel" loved.
If we don't have enough money, it's the government's fault. Why can't they just give welfare money to everyone for doing nothing at all?
I truly believe that if we, as Christian women, forget out what makes us feel good and focus on the needs of our families and others around us, we will begin to find the joy and peace that God says is ours in Him.
Ice-cream only satisfies for the moment. Christ satisfies for eternity.
