Menu Plan Monday - December 28

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Now it's time to gear up for a new year. Have you made a New Year's Resolution? Last year I vowed to not touch aspartame, mostly in the form of diet sodas, and it is a vow I have kept. It took me at least two weeks to get rid of the headaches that came as a result of no Diet Coke or Diet Dr. Pepper, but after that worked its way out, I felt better than I had in years. My reason for wanting to give up the stuff was, and remains, my body's sensitivity to aspartame (Nutra Sweet.) The last time I had a Diet Coke my head felt as if it would explode. I got dizzy and my mind was totally confused. Even my speech slurred. My mouth had a taste in it that I can only liken to "metallic."

Now, a year later, I no longer experience these horrible sensations. I am convinced it was the build-up of aspartame in my body.

This year I want to work toward healthier eating and exercise habits for my family. I'm on the lookout for lower fat, lower sugar recipes. I cannot have Nutra Sweet, but the rest of the family does not seem to be bothered by it. I would rather we just dejunk our bodies by learning to like less sweetened things, but that probably isn't going to happen. We'll see how it goes. I'll try to remember to report back now and then and let you know what sorts of recipes I find that help us get "on track."

Did any of you receive an Easy Bake Oven for Christmas? Well, you probably know how expensive those little mixes are to purchase. Don't despair, though! Recipe Zaar has 65 recipes to whip up your own mixes! Your little girl will love you for them. I'm thinking about printing off the recipes and stapling them together to give Amanda her very  own cookbook.

Now, for this week's menu. I don't have healthy groceries this week so I'll have to make do with what I DO have. My husband requested french fries and hamburgers for later in the week. Ugh. The new resolution is going to be quite a challenge!

Our grandaughter, Jasmyne, got her first easy bake oven this Christmas. Compliments of Mimi and Papa. She loves it! You are right though.. The little mixes are just outrageous in price. Thankyou for the info.
