Saturday Scripture Speaks #5

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." Genesis 1:1 (KJV)

I'm back to the beginning with Genesis as I begin another year of reading through the Bible. This is the first verse in the Old Testament and it is one that speaks volumes despite its short length.

If you don't get this foundational truth "down pat", then the rest of the Bible is meaningless. In this verse we learn:

GOD CREATED - God is the author and the creator - He made all and He made it out of nothing. He was here before anyone or anything else was. This verse doesn't say that God made a microorganism and then the rest of the earth and Heaven finished themselves off. It says that God created - period. He had to have made it all.

We could go on to discuss the six day creation and whether it is literal or not. I happen to believe it is a literal six day creation. God said it "was good" when He finished. The Bible also repeats after each day's account: "There was morning and there was evening." Hmmmm, sounds like a 24 hour day, doesn't it?
