Verse 1 - Mother as Teacher

Verse One of Proverbs 31 says this: "The sayings of King Lemuel--an oracle his mother taught him" (NIV)

So, what can we get from this verse? Being a homeschool mom I naturally gravitate to the word "taught." The author of this proverb tells us that it's an oracle - a wise saying, source of wisdom - that King Lemuel's mother taught him.

It must be that mothers are given wisdom enough to teach their children. This is so contrary to today's society that blasts everywhere that mothers aren't qualified to teach their children. They need the government to do it for them. I think that if women have a strong desire to homeschool their children it's because the Lord's put that desire in their hearts, and when He puts a desire in a mother's heart it's because he's enabled her to follow through with the desire.

Do you think that King Lemuel was "homeschooled"? I don't think that his mother just taught him a chapter of Proverbs. She taught him through her daily life as his mother and teacher. And I'll bet she was a Proverbs 31 woman herself because if she wasn't, nobody would be interested in Following 31 at all.
