Marlow and the Monster is written and illustrated by Sharon Cramer (B & F Publishing)
Marlow is a little boy who receives bedtime visits from a monster. This is not a scary monster, though the monster believes that he is. Marlow, however, finds that the monster is more of a pest. So his dilemma is this: Whatever is he going to do with the thing?
His solution is simple; just give the monster to his sister. Has Marlow solved the problem? Hmmmm.
Marlow and the Monster is a cute story with equally cute pictures. The illustrations are done in quill pen and ink with the monster in vivid watercolor. Ms. Cramer did the monster in color "because only the children can see him." By making the monster goofy rather than scary, she does a terrific job of taking the focus off of terrifying and puts it on something that is more funny and reassuring. I like that.
