Book Review - Ascent From Darkness by Michael Leehan

Michael Leehan has bared his soul in his story, Ascent from Darkness: How Satan's Soldier Became God's Warrior (Thomas Nelson). We follow him as a teenager who nearly kills himself with an accidental overdose to a man steeped about as far as one can go into Satan's realm. If you didn't think the devil and his demons were real before, you will after reading this book. It describes in a true story what C. S. Lewis described in The Screwtape Letters.

When I began reading Ascent from Darkness, I felt a lot of emotions - mostly shivering feelings that caused me to praise the Lord Jesus for saving me from a life without Him. Michael Leehan was the real deal when it came to Satan worship. He sold his soul to him early on, a decision he would both come to love and hate at the same time.

While the book is almost scary, it does leave the reader with joy and praise; if a demon possessed man like Michael Leehan can be saved, perhaps there's hope for the friend or family member I - or you - have been praying for. That's the hope that this story gives, and because of that hope, the story is worth telling.

I'll warn you, Ascent from Darkness feels like pretty heavy reading at times. I almost ditched it part-way through just because I was nearly frightened by some of the scary things described - satanic rituals, cuttings, and blood sacrifices among them. I am glad that I read this, though. It is important for today's society to understand that demons are real. Satan is real. Hell is real. Don't listen to those who would tell you otherwise. Take it from one who's been in the demonic realm.

Jesus is real too. Mr. Leehan does give God praise - what a testimony of God's love and faithfulness!

**I received a copy of Ascent from Darkness in exchange for my honest reivew. Opinions are my own.**
