Reuse and Make a Difference

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Aladdin. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love talking about all things related to homemaking - something the Proverbs 31 woman did well. I also love to talk about doing things as close to natural and "from scratch" as possible. Why? I believe that it's part of taking care of my family and doing it well.

We live today in a "throw away" society. Everybody is so busy that an awful lot of stuff gets thrown away, mostly into landfills or, even worse, along highways. My family takes a lot of hikes out in the state forest nearby and I can't tell you how much trash is tossed underneath trees in an effort to hide them.  What all of that garbage does to the wildlife cannot be good.

Although I mostly do my part to keep the environment clean and free of litter, I'm going to step it up a bit. I'm going to Do The Reuse Challenge. For 30 days my family will not use disposable cups or containers. We'll be the better for it.

Aladdin is sponsoring this challenge. If you don't have reusable containers, you can find some at discounted prices and free shipping on selected products that will help you complete the challenge.

Here are a few interesting tidbits that might pique your interest concerning this challenge:

  • It is cheaper by far to brew your own coffee at home - It costs roughly $165 per year as opposed to $636 a year when purchasing drip coffee at a cafe. Ouch.
  • When going out to eat, you spend, on average, $2,350 per year. Double ouch. Pack your lunch five days a week and watch the savings pile up. And it's pretty likely that you'll be eating healthier as well.

Those are only a couple of points on which to chew. If just one person started reusing, think of the difference it would make. If thousands of us did, WOW.

I signed up for the reuse challenge! For the most part I already reuse everything I can except for an occassional paper towel and going out to eat once a week ( hubbys pay day and also when we get most of our errands done) This should be easy for me but, I have a feeling it will be more of a challenge than I think . It will be interesting anyways. Thanks! Let us know how your challenge went after 30 days!
