Grandmother's Diamond

When I was about 17 years old, my mom gave me her mother's diamond engagement ring. The diamond is 1/3 carat, not anything super huge, but because it was my grandmother's, I highly prize it. I don't remember my grandmother because she died when I was three-years-old. I've seen pictures of her, read letters that she wrote to my mom, and listened to stories about her. I think she was a remarkable woman and I really wish she could have watched her grandchildren grow. Her engagement ring is a little piece of jewelry that keeps her "alive" in my thoughts.

At one point, I decided that looking at a ring that didn't fit me wasn't enough. I brought the ring to a jewelry store in my hometown and asked to have the diamond reset into a pendant. I chose a gold heart and the diamond was then set into the center. The process of choosing the right pendant (and gold chain) was interesting and exciting at the same time.

I wear my grandmother's diamond close to my heart now and I think about her often. One day the necklace will be Amanda's and she'll do the same. I'm not sure if you can see the pendant in the picture below.

Though this is my story, I enjoy hearing other Jewelry Stories. Everyone has something special that they hand down from one generation to the next and they're all filled with meaning to those who own them.

With the internet at your fingertips, you can visit the Jewelry Information Center to win a 14k white gold 1.5 carat diamond Kay Jewelers necklace by sharing your own jewelry story. While you're there, make sure you browse around. I learned a lot tonight about how to keep my jewelry clean and in good shape, as well as how to keep my jewelry box organized. That's something which I've needed help with for a long time!

What a sweet story. I have one living Grandmother, and I miss her so much. Living in Belgium for the last 5 years has left her feeling a bit left out of my life.

Lately she has been sending me envelopes full of old photographs of herself when she was young. They are so precious to me. For her to trust me with these pictures makes my heart dance with delight.

That is wonderful what you did with the ring, I bet she would be so happy to know it is still a treasure to someone.

GOD Bless You!

Your sister in CHRIST,
Donna

Its a touching story.
Many fond memories of my grandparent was recalled as i read you story. And i even took out the old album. I really appreciate my granny's selfless love for us, and will relay this love to my children.

Thanks for sharing.
