Thankful Thursday - April 23

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

This verse was quoted tonight at our Bible study and it is one that I mediated a bit upon tonight. It spoke to my heart.

There is so much going on this week that I have to stop and take a breather - and thank the Lord for what He's doing in my life, the seemingly good things and the seemingly not-so-good things. The funny thing is, what I see as not-so-good, is really for my best. I just don't know it yet. Praise the Lord that He knows the beginning from the end and that I can, and should, place my life into the safety of His wings. There is a hope and a future for all of us who trust in Jesus.

This thankful post is going to include, therefore, both the joys and disappointments I've had over the last week.

  • After spending lots of time and energy worrying about and haggling over medical bills (Jeff's surgery, ICU room, ambulance ride, etc), we're beginning to make some headway. We're going to end up paying maybe a couple thousand total for what initially reached many more thousands. Now we're praying that we can soon purchase the sleep apnea machine that Jeff needs. God's working it out for us; we'll be amazed when all is said and done.
  • We had snow yesterday and today. You heard me correctly - snow. It didn't really stick, though last night Jeff almost lost control of our van while coming home from work. Someone was stuck in the ditch and he stopped to help him. I guess the guy in the ditch thought our van was going to run him over. Both my husband and this stranger were protected and kept safe.
  • There was some misunderstanding as to a writing assignment this week. I tried to explain myself and the error, but was met with cruel words and no chance to correct the mistake. It wasn't my fault but, as some of you might know, nobody cares about that. After much prayer and thought, I let it go. Wow. I feel so much better and it no longer bothers me. I'll make mistakes in life and I'll be wrongly blamed. Praise God He's with me and gives me a forgiving spirit. My testimony before others is more important than hurt feelings.
  • We're to have warmer weather beginning tomorrow. THANK YOU GOD!
What are you thankful for?

I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. Psalm 69:3 (NIV)

I think this verse from Jeremiah must be my absolute favorite! It's kind of a "go to" kind of verse for me that has helped me in so many different types of situations.

Happy Thankful Thursday!

Hi Rita,

I can relate to your writing disappointment. I will remember you when I need to cast something off and just let it go. Have a great TT.

Love that scripture verse you shared. I think we can all relate to the "letting go" thing - not always easy but certainly in the end - God is pleased. Happy TT! -Laurie

Good for you in allowing the Holy Spirit to give you the strength to let it go, this is not easy for some (myself included)... Be blessed abundantly this week.

Jeremiah 29:11 is wonderful!
Think about the context and of Jeremiah's life. He needed to know God's plan for him to be able to carry through on his part.

Thanks for sharing your list of thankfuls. I will be praying about God providing for your needs with the medical bills. We have so been there! Not to the degree ya'll have but still, the pressure is the same. Praise God for their safety and I loved how you handled this situation. Sometimes it's best just to let things go...we don't always have to make sure we get the last word in, even if the one before hurt us badly. It's hard to zip it sometimes and I admire the way you handled it! Happy Thankful Thursday!

I totally love when you said: "The funny thing is, what I see as not-so-good, is really for my best. I just don't know it yet."

It's awesome when you can look back and see it, but for now we have to go on trust.

Good for you that you were able to let go of your hurt and disappointment!

Now there is a place I keep praying I'll get to - the place where I can let a wrong go and remember it's not about me but about how God is glorified. That part of my "self" really hangs on. Thank you for the reminder and the truth and peace in just letting something go! Be blessed.

My prayers are with you. I too know the trauma of medical bills. And it is a blessing when and if they go away. We were blessed when they forgave up $35,000.00 for hubby's heart attack in 1999. We did not have insurance.
