Tackle it Tuesday

After sneezing and having trouble sleeping, I decided it was time to clean under and behind our bed. This is something that should be done every spring cleaning, but I'd neglected to do it because of the heaviness of a queen sized bed. Since the room is not the biggest and I knew I couldn't lift the frame and all, I opted to remove the mattress and box springs (with help from Jonathon and Ryan.)

We lifted the mattress set over the foot end of the bed and propped both pieces up against the wall. This is what I saw - you can't see the inch thick dust storm in the picture, but it was there:

We moved the storage boxes out and dusted them off. Then I swept the edges of the wall and bed with the hose attachment. I also swept out the sides of the frame (rail). A ton of dust had accumulated. After that was done, I ran the sweeper head over the carpet. I had to keep moving it up and over the support "beams" in the center. There are two of them. I also dusted the bed frame with furniture polish and a dust rag. Yucky.

The finished product was a clean area under and around the bed. I think I'll sleep better tonight.

Before sliding the mattress and box springs back onto the frame, I ran the sweeper hose attachment over them. They say there are all sorts of dust mites that accumulate in mattresses. That's extra yucky. When all was done, I finished with making the bed with clean sheets. Yesterday I had washed the bed spread and hung it on the line to dry (it was only 45 degrees F out so it was cold!)

Good job! I cleaned under all the beds in our house a few weeks ago, and it was sooo nice to know there were no more massive dust bunnies lurking. I bet you'll sleep peacefully tonight. There's nothing like clean sheets. :)

It looks so nice. Not only should I vacuum under my bed, I should organize it.

Good tackle.
