Tackle it Tuesday - Herbs

This was another week for planting. My sister-in-law had given me an herb garden kit and I hadn't opened it until recently. I was really excited when I saw what it contained! Lavender, English thyme, marjoram, garlic chives, dill, cilantro, Greek oregano, Thai basil, mint, and sweet Italian parsley. Thanks, Shirley!

I use herbs in my soap and a LOT goes into our cuisine. I'm planning to write an article about the health benefits of natural herbs in both food and skin products, so be on the lookout for it soon.

It's a good time to start herbs inside for later replanting outside, so I got started right away.

We didn't buy any of those little peat pod starter kits this year, but we did hold onto the trays from last year. I filled two of them almost to the brim with the organic soil I bought a few weeks ago.

Then, I made little furrows and planted (rather closely) rows of herbs after marking each one with stakes that came with the kit. A little water and placing in a sunny window and, voila, an herb garden that will soon be growing nicely outside.

Love those fresh herbs in my food! Our herb garden is just outside the back door where it is easy to visit.

Wow that is great. We need to plant some of ours. I just picked up packets hoping that they would grow. The plants (flowers) that we tried to grow from seed never came up but the tomatoes and veggies did. Go figure. We use the crates that eggs come in. Those are handy. Then we can plant the whole thing later. But Herbs are on my To Do List. Great Tackle

I never thought about egg cartons for planters. What a good idea!

I still have to get my indoor herb garden going. Hopefully this week!
